Landmark Village Sign unveiled in Alfold

It was a sunny Saturday morning when passers-by and a gathering of local residents were treated to the sight of a new and unique village sign being unveiled at Alfold Crossways. The sign, at around 12ft high, is in the form of an oak tree and mounted on a base which declares ‘Alfold – Heart of Fold Country’. Parish Councillor Chris Britton, who led the project, says ‘No-one will pass by on the A281 between Guildford and Horsham in future without noticing they are in Alfold, and that it has a real ‘heart’’. Cutting a ceremonial ribbon, Borough and County Councillor Kevin Deanus referred to landmarks in Alfold’s long history, to which he felt this sign would be a fitting addition and talked about for years to come. Alfold Parish Council, which funded the project using Community Infrastructure Levy funds, worked closely with a small family firm in Leicestershire, Caltef Designs Ltd., to produce the bespoke design, which being made of ‘weathering steel’ will last for decades without the need for any significant maintenance.

Alfold Village Tree and Sign

We were commisioned by Alfold Parish Council to design and manufacture a tree sculpture for Alfold Village, doubling up as the new Alfold Village sign.

Designed as a striking feature, the piece combines detailed craftsmanship with bold, natural materials.

The base features intricate laser cut detailing, paired with a stainless steel backing to achieve a striking 3d effect. The warm, weathering tones of the corten will contrast beautifully with the clean, reflective quality of the stainless steel, allowing the detail to really standout as light and shadow shift throughout the day. While the tree itself is formed from corten weathering steel chosen for its rich, evolving patina that will sit beautifully within the landscape.

This beautiful addition creates a striking welcome for residents and visitors alike.
